Festival Season in Copenhagen

Taking part in local festivals is a fantastic way to engage with the cultural life and people living in any city. In recent years the number of festivals taking place in Copenhagen has certainly been on the rise, and they are all very well attended. We experienced the wonderful Copenhagen Pride last week, the electronic music festival Strøm and the Copenhagen Summer Festival the week before, and Copenhagen Fashion Week before that.

A heads-up on what is to come over the next few weeks:

21.08 – 30.08 Copenhagen Cooking brands itself as Northern Europe’s leading food festival. Certainly the program, which also includes some free events, seems to expand every year. Now world famous for its Michelin Restaurants and New Nordic Cuisine, this is a great opportunity to sample some of the finest food in the city (and Zealand) with many of the kitchens, cafés and restaurants offering festive discounts.

24.08 – 30.08 Copenhagen Health Week is taking hold of the city for the first time. Any newcomer to the city cannot help but recognize how fitness-crazy Copenhageners appear to be and so it seems fitting that a week be dedicated to healthiness. Oh and 28.08 – 30.08 the Copenhagen Yoga Festival will be held at Amager Strand.

04.09 – 20.09 Golden Days Festival is packed with a wide range of cultural activities exploring Denmark’s cultural heritage. This year, 18.09 – 20.09, Hello Heritage is dedicated to foreigners and expats and includes a range of talks, guided tours, concerts, lectures, city walks, exhibitions, food, workshops, and debates all conducted in English.

23.09 – 27.09 Copenhagen Blues Festival will be honouring blues legend B B King who passed away this year, and celebrating the 100th birthday of another legend, Muddy Waters. The program is yet to be posted but expect some hyggelige evenings with great music and relaxed company.

Enjoy the festival season!
